This week’s vendor spotlight features 10 Questions with Ferdian Jap, co-owner of Zukku. Launched in 2018 at Armature Works, Zukku is home of authentic, curated sushi, as well as the beloved sushi burrito, poke bowls, and more.
At Zukku, the rice is your canvas… whether you want it as a roll, a burrito, or in a bowl; add only the freshest and highest quality ingredients available to make your own edible art. 1. Where are you from originally?
Zukku: Originally from Indonesia, but grew up here in Tampa and I call Tampa home!
2. Why did you decide to pursue a career in the restaurant business?
Zukku: The customers. When you see someone’s face light up as they pick up the food, because it looks amazing (since we eat with our eyes first) and then an even brighter light when they take a bite and taste the amazingness of the food.
3. Can you tell us more about your concept?
Zukku: Zukku serves Sushi Rolls, Poke Bowls, & Sushi Burritos. Choose from our curated masterpieces or you can express yourself and create your own masterpiece!
4. What three words would you use to describe your brand?
Zukku: Artsy. Creative. Colorful.
5. What are your three favorite menu items?
Zukku: Lobster Volcano Sushi Roll. Tuna Poke Bowl. Zukku Dumplings
6. What is your favorite menu item that no one knows about?
Zukku: It was Zukku Dumplings, we made it for our team and our neighbors, but we decided to add it to our menu since everyone asked us to.
7. How do you see your business growing?
Zukku: We are looking to grow strategically and becoming the go-to for your sushi dining experience. We are still building out our first full service concept called Zukku-San in Wesley Chapel.
8. Why do you like having your restaurant at Armature Works?
Zukku: Armature Works truly changes the DNA of Tampa, having a large go-to community gathering area where residents and visitors can go and enjoy all the variety of food and drink options. The energy is amazing and puts Tampa on the map as a foodie city destination.
9. What advice would you give someone who would like to open their own restaurant?
Zukku: Shoot then Aim! Meaning do it and then figure it out along the way, be flexible and adjust to what the customer wants.
10. Any messages to the community or anything else that you would like to add?
