As we get closer to opening, you may think you have a pretty good idea of what Armature Works is. But the truth is, there’s a lot you may not know. And we’re here to set the record straight. Behold, the 15 things you probably didn’t know about Armature Works.
1. It’s really, really, really old
Armature Works dates back to 1910 and was once the storage and maintenance facility for the off hours Tampa Electric (TECO) streetcars. Think about it: this was before most people had cars, guys.
2. You’ll be able to work there
And we’re not talking cubicles. Bay 3’s co-working space is an open collaborative hub for professionals to work, meet and grow; as far as perks, think private offices, conference rooms, print stations, lounges all outfitted in furniture you’ll desperately wish was in your own home. Oh, and did we mention catering options? (#4 will shed more light on that tasty point.)
3. You’ll be overwhelmed with food options
Food takes center stage at Armature Works, and that’s largely because of Heights Public Market (HPM). There will be — count ‘em — more than a dozen vendors in this bad boy, including one stall that will rotate every four months. And don’t forget about the two signature restaurants anchoring the building. In other words, it will be impossible to never get in a food rut.
4. There will be booze
Cocktails will be flowing from top to bottom… literally! Along with several vendors slinging their own concoctions (Frosé, anyone?), there’s also Fine & Dandy (a bonafide craft cocktail emporium), southern style steakhouse Steelbach, and a truly massive rooftop bar with sweeping views of the river and Downtown Tampa. More a beer person? ABO (Atlantic Beer + Oyster) has your local and craft brews covered.
5. You can eat CLEAN and GREEN
Don’t worry veggie lovers, with options this limitless… you’re totally covered from avocado toast to acai bowls, and even — wait for it! — vegan doughnuts! You can even juice cleanse to your heart’s content. Right, Swami Juice?
6. It’s also a meat lover’s dream come true
Two words: Butcher + Barbecue, a boutique butcher showcasing charcuterie and artisan cheeses. Two more: Steak Frites, an exclusive HPM offering from Cru Cellars. (We could go on, but you get the picture.)
7. You’ll be able to eat al fresco
Whether you grab your food and sit in the open-air courtyard, nab a spot by the river on the lawn or choose to have dinner at Steelbach on the terrace… outdoor dining options are as endless as the menu options.
8. You can be… ON A BOAT!
This is Florida, after all. Boat slips will be available to arrive via vessel, and even park it at ABO for some oysters and craft beers while you’re at it.
9. Bikes are always an option, too
The Riverwalk will extend past Armature Works all the way to the Boulevard Bridge. meaning a two-wheel riverside cruise will kill two birds with one stone: provide a gorgeous commute and way to pre-burn the calories you will inevitably eat / drink right back.
10. Parking won’t be “a thing” for once
We will have multiple parking garages as well as several on-street parking spots… 440 to be exact.
11. There are a LOT of ways to celebrate here
We have six indoor and outdoor event spaces and all of them are filled with exposed brick, hardwood floors, and views of the Downtown Skyline and glistening Hillsborough River.
12. Armature Works is just one part of the overall project
Don’t get us wrong, it’s a big part — the epicenter even — but lest we forget about the overarching redevelopment project coined The Heights; upon completion, it will be a whopping 43 acres of fun. Fun = THE PEARL (now leasing!), retail, hotel, condos, office space… and more parking of course.
13. You can get really crafty up in here
Into making your own beer? Consider yourself a candle crafting connoisseur? Or do you just really need help learning how to roast a turkey? (Don’t we all.) School is in session at Show+Tell: a 30-person equipped, interactive entertainment workshop located within Heights Public Market where local craftsman can utilize the industrial space (complete with demo kitchen) to share their trade secrets. You can also book this for your own private event, wine tasting… bridal and baby showers galore!
14. We’ll have our own farmer’s market
Like farmer’s markets? Of course you do. Heights Outdoor Market will be a regular fixture at Armature Works, because let’s be honest, a weekend isn’t complete without some mason jar preserves, heirloom tomatoes, baked breads, local honey and that hand-stitched pot holder you absolutely had to have.
15. We are in fact opening this year
I know, right?
